Skilled Migrant Category (SMC)

Points-Based

✓ Tier 1 = direct PR; Tier 2 = work visa then PR

Work Visa → Residence

Staged Pathway

Many workers enter on an Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) and later qualify for Skilled Migrant or Residence from Work pathways.

General Eligibility Criteria

✓Age 55 or under when you receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA)

✓Qualifications at NZ Level 3–6 (or assessed equivalent)

✓Minimum 2 years of relevant professional work experience in the past 10 years

✓Occupation on the Long-Term Skill Shortage List (LTSSL) or Green List

✓English language: IELTS 6.5+, OET B, TOEFL 79+, or PTE 58+

✓Minimum 100 points on the SMC points grid
